The final round of the CML winter series at Frankley saw a quality entry and some much missed sunshine. The series had already been taken by Darren Bloomfield who has shown pace and consistency in all condition over the winter.

The first round of qualifying saw Darren once again show his pace by taking the round win with another impressive drive. Rounds 2 and 3 however went the way of BRCA National Champion Neil Cragg, his RC8B looking more at home on the dry Astroturf surface than it really ever has. Neil was using the soon to be released new version of the Reedy engine and pronounced himself delighted with both driveability and performance. Neil beat Elliott and then Darren to the round wins in the respective rounds, but the times were very close.

The main final turned into the Elliott Boots show. Neil suffered a rare clutch bearing failure at the end of the warm up and was unable to start. Darren had a first lap crash that dropped him back in the pack and unable to challenge Elliott. Elliott was fast and clean, using RB engines and fuel with Savox servos to drive away from the competition comfortably. After a big battle with Craig Drescher and Richard Taylor, Darren got himself into second and tried to put some quick laps in to unsettle Elliott, but he was too far behind to make an impact. This left Elliott to cruise to the flag in front of Darren and Craig.

In the truggy class it was Tom Jordan who was victorious in round 6 after a very close fought race with James Bulivant. The win was merely a bonus for Tom who had already secured the series victory in the previous round.

So thanks to all the competitors and the excellent Frankley club for very enjoyable winter series, which despite the atrocious weather at times was once again the go to choice for the top racers in the UK.
