Team Associated is pleased to announce that star driver Ryan Maifield has been voted by the readers of Radio Control Car Action as the “2010 Driver of the Year.” Team Associated Vice President, Cliff Lett, had the honour of delivering the good news to Ryan while he was competing at the Cactus Classic in Scottsdale, AZ. Visually shocked and humbled by the award, Ryan was very gracious to his sponsors and mentors who helped him get to where he is today.

Known for his passionate driving style and approachable demeanor, Ryan has earned fans worldwide after exploding on the scene in 2003 with his TQ and victory in 2WD Modified at the Cactus Classic. After that, Ryan travelled around the world gaining experience and nabbing the pole

position for the 2005 4WD IFMAR World Championship, solidifying himself as one of the top electric off-road drivers. Ryan expanded his racing classes to gas off-road in 2005 and won his first ROAR National Championship in 1:8 Buggy in 2006. Now five National Championships deep and the back-to-back ROAR Truggy National Champion, Ryan is always a favourite to win any race he enters.

When asked about winning this award, Ryan said, “I’d like to thank all the fans who voted for me and this award. I never set out to win this, but instead I just try to be myself at the track and give 100% each time I race. I’d like to thank all the people and companies who helped me get to where I am today, specifically Brent Thielke, Richard Saxton, and Kurt Wenger of Team Associated, along with Jason Ruona of JConcepts.”

Now as Ryan’s career matures and his obligations to the sport grow, he has learned that even if he isn’t on the top step of the podium, fans want to see him compete and cheer him on. Ryan’s travels take him around the world competing in a wide range of events representing his sponsors and now as the RC Car Action Driver of the Year. Congratulations Ryan!
