Invite-Only Record Attempt

HPI staff took a Firestorm Flux, Vorza Flux HP and a Hot Bodies Ve8 buggy to the massive Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham city centre to take part in their Guinness World Records long jump efforts. From past experience, were were pretty sure that a 1:8 scale buggy would be the best choice for the record attempt, which is why both electric buggies HPI Europe offer were supplied. The Guinness World Records official didn’t allow any modifications other than changing basic suspension settings, so no aerodynamic modifications were possible! They did fit the Vorza with the #102703 Flux Tork 2650Kv Brushless Motor for even more extreme speeds – knowing they had to go all-out to get the result which was wanted!

Several different manufacturers were represented, some brought by local racers and some were brought by company representatives.

Taking to the Ramp!

The Gadget Show presenters have been involved with various record attempts on their programme for some time, and one of their previous shows recorded their attempts to break the official record of 15 metres for a radio-controlled car jump with controlled landing. This time, after several attempts by the presenters, one of the nitro truggies brought to the Bullring broke the standing record by 3 metres. This brought out a cheer from the television crew and presenters, but with plenty of time left in the filming day, other cars and trucks were prepared to have their go.

The Vorza Takes its Turn!

One of the presenters, Jason Bradbury, proved himself to be the best-qualified RC driver from the show, so he took over all of the driving duties and soon tried the Vorza. HPI staff told him it was equipped with two LiPo batteries putting out 4S power, plenty for the first attempt!

On its very first run, the Vorza out-did the existing record by 10cm with 4S power!! The presenters were very impressed with the easy handling and immense acceleration that allowed it to hit the ramp straight on!

6S Power Launch!

After the record-breaking first jump with 4S power, the twin 3S batteries were plugged in, and the Vorza was fully equipped with 6S power, and everyone present was amazed with its speed!

With time running out, Jason then had just a few attempts to break the record: On the first attempt the car landed on a concrete kerb but it was just fine and turned around for another attempt. With the second attempt Jason missed the ramp and ran onto the landing surface!

For the third attempt the car was off-centre and it hit a huge concrete post about 3 metres in the air!

The Vorza was still absolutely fine to drive and a fourth and final drive was made…after a front flip and landing on all four wheels the Vorza Flux HP made the jump and drove away into the record books!

The Vorza Sets the Record!

The official result was a multiple record-breaking 26.18 metres!

HPI are very proud to have been a part of this historic event, and of course very happy that the Vorza Flux HP has made it into the official Guinness Book of World Records!
