The third of the four rounds of the BRCA 1:8 Off-Road National Championship would take place at the Herts Nitro Model Club at Westmill near Ware. With a full entry and drivers waiting on the reserve list, this showed that the class is still very strong in the UK.
With difficult weather in the UK, the Herts Nitro Model Club had some issues with track prep for this event but luckily the weather broke and the track was prepped Thursday thanks to everyone who helped to get this ready and Westmill farm.
The top three after four rounds of qualifying on day one saw the Kyosho of Elliott Boots lead after taking there round wins and a third place. Second was defending champ Darren Bloomfield with his TLR chassis, Lee Martin would be third with his Mugen and Neil Cragg and the Associated would line-up in fourth.
With the two semis completed and the same four drivers at the front who had dominated qualifying, it looked like Elliott, Neil, Darren and Lee would fight it out in the A final. And this was the case with Elliott and Darren pulling away from Lee and Neil who were battling hard too. At about the 30 minute mark, Darren tried to stretch another lap on his fuel, but ran out on track leaving Elliott out front from Lee and Neil in third. As a result of this win, Elliott was crowned the 2012 BRCA National Champion and his dad and pit man Chris was very happy!
HNMC had worked hard to bring this round of the championship so thanks to all that helped to achieve this.
