Great success for Chris Doughty and LRP where he took TQ and victory at the season final of the TMSC at Coventry Model Car Club. Powered by the LRP ZZ.21C Ceramic as well, fellow LRP driver Craig Drescher finished third

The Midlands Super Cup is a highly competitive 1:8 nitro off-road race series that is attended by many of the UK’s best drivers. The seventh and final round was held at the Coventry Model Car Club and the atmosphere was great and the track in the best condition. The race proved to be a huge success for LRP. Chris Doughty celebrated his first ever 1:8 nitro buggy TQ and victory relying on the top of the line LRP ZZ.21C Ceramic nitro competition engine. Craig Drescher in third topped a perfect event for LRP off as Michael Lewis finished second. Chris sent the following report:

“I started out in round one finishing fourth and not a great run as my general pace was a little lacking. On the dry and dusty track, I used super soft tyres thinking this would work best. For round two, I changed to soft tyres and this instantly transformed the car. The car just had far more bite, was very positive and just felt really switched on. My run was fast but with a few errors in traffic that I’ll hold my hands up to. Even with the scrappy run, I finished second. In round three I went out with the same set-up and tyres and had a much better run, only the odd slow lap due to traffic, but I set TQ for the round with the fastest time of the event and this also got me overall TQ with a first and second counting.
At the sound of the tone I got a good start into the 30-minute final. The first lap was clean but I just didn’t hit my rhythm straight away. I had an error on the back section of the track that dropped me down to fifth. I worked my way back up to second, but I was a little way behind Craig Drescher by the time got into second. I just focussed on running fast laps up to my fuel stop knowing it would be a long race. I worked my way past a massive gaggle of lapped traffic only to see Craig pop out from the middle of these as he had got caught up while trying to pass these guys. The race was back to where it started – me leading from Craig close behind. I was able to maintain the small gap to Craig, my car feeling pretty fast and able to run quick laps. Craig was pushing hard trying to close the gap but he was not really able to make any strong challenge. With about seven minutes to go, Craig had an issue that dropped him a lap down. I was able to back off and just bring the car home winning by over a lap.”
