UK RC Rock Crawling Nationals

(15/7/08) The second ever UK Rock Crawling Nationals took part on Sunday 13 July 2008 at the excellent Bracken Rocks facility in Derbyshire, more frequently used by Motor Cycle Trails competitors.

A total of 51 trucks were entered for the two classes, 2.2 and Super, with the vast majority of entrants choosing the up and coming 2.2 class, which has been fuelled by the release of the Axial AX-10 range of crawler specific kits.

Racer entered three trucks which were the subject of recent magazine reviews, all in various states of modification, but essentially they were pretty close to box stock proving you can buy a kit and go crawling straight away!

Look for a full report in Racer, but in the meanwhile, here are the results fresh from UKRCRC.

Harper shines as Grainger falters

(13/7/08) The first evidence of a chink in Chris Grainger's armour emerged at West London. The venue is often the scene of a few surprises and round three of the BRCA TC Nationals was no different.

Chris' national championship contenders wasted no time in taking advantage of his poor form and it was rising star Elliot Harper who made the most of the situation. After qualifying second on the grid, Elliot went on to take two leg wins in the A finals to secure his first BRCA national win! Ben Cosgrove was the pole man, but he had to settle for second overall after making one or two costly errors during the finals. Andy Moore completed the modified podium by taking thirdoverall on a count-back decider with his Hot Bodies team-mate Mark Stiles. Championship favourite Chris Grainger finished down in eighth position after a lackluster performance and a badly handling car.

In pro-stock, champion-elect Glen Westwood took the early initiative, but a late qualifying charge from Nathan Parker saw him put his Tamiya on pole for the A final. Despite a few mistakes, a win and a second place finish was enough to give Nathan his first ever BRCA national victory as Rob West came through from tenth on the grid to take second overall, while Jay Westwood was third with his Schumacher.

This result has meant that both championships will be decided at the final round of the championship, which takes place at Halifax in August. A full report from the West London national will be featured in Racer soon!

Cragg adds to Euros tally with 4WD victory

(12/7/08) After a strong showing in 2WD, it was Neil Cragg who took his new Yokomo chassis to TQ in 4WD despite four drivers taking round wins. Hupo Hoenigl (Tamiya) took second from Lee Martin (Associated), Ellis Stafford (X Factory) and Simon Moss (Schumacher).
Neil went on to win the first and second legs to give him the title with the new Yokomo BMAX car with Hupo taking second overall aided by a win in the final leg that Neil sat out, with Lee Martin taking third.

Racer will have a full report in the October issue, on sale 4 September.

Neil Cragg wins 2WD Euros in Italy

(9/7/08) At a track that he won a European Championship and a World title, UK driver Neil Cragg asserted himself as the best in Europe when it comes to 2WD. The Associated pilot raced to pole position in stunning style before going on to win the first and third legs of the A final in Collegno this afternoon. Neil's AE team-mate Paul Bradby lined up in second place on the grid and took the runners-up spot with a great result after winning the second leg. Hupo Hoenigl from Austria took the final spot on the podium, locking out the podum for the Associated chassis.

Look out for news on the 4WD event which begins tomorrow with qualifying starting on Friday.

Stafford and Doughty win at Eden Park National

(30/6/08) Two former European Champions shared the wins at the fourth round of the BRCA Nationals revisited the Eden Park venue after a break of ten years.
Ellis Stafford (X Factory) was the man to beat in 2WD as he dominated the meeting taking TQ and three A final wins. Grant Williams (Associated) put in three great drives to finish a deserved second from Lee Martin (Associated) in third place.
In 4WD, it looked as though Ellis was going to repeat his performance from the previous day as he took pole with his X Factory X-5 Squared. Despite a very convincing first leg victory for Ellis, Lee Martin (Associated) took the second leg and Chris Doughty (Atomised Associated) the third. Ellis suffered breakages in the second and third legs so it was Chris who took the win in leg three and the overall victory from Lee and Danny McGee (Losi).

Jefferies and Harper win Much-More Scottish GP

(17/6/08) This year's Much-More Scottish Grand Prix saw wins for Hot Bodies with Olly Jefferies winning the Pro Stock race on Sunday, and Xray's Elliott Harper the victor on Sunday in Modified.
Olly took FTD in Pro Stock and went on to win from pole ahead of Mirage team-mate and Xray pilot Ben Cosgrove, as Alan Bickerstaff made it three makes in the top three taking the last place on the podium with his Associated TC5.

On Sunday, the same high-quality field battled it out for the Modified title. Olly was quickest in the first round of qualifying, but it was Elliott Harper that would take pole for the A final. Elliott went on to win the first final and finish runner-up to Olly in the second. Elliott’s fastest time from the first final gave him the win overall and Olly would have to settle for second and this marked Elliott’s first major domestic win. Coming home third was Nils Konekoop from Holland with his TOP Scythe.

A class for six-cell (or LiPo) modified was also held and this was won by Kev Falconer. The runner-up was Graham Kenny with Mark Young third.

Grainger and Westwood make it two from two

(9/6/08) Chris Grainger and Glen Westwood both took a step closer to becoming the 2008 National Champions in their respective classes after taking wins at the second round of the BRCA Touring Car Nationals at the Cotswolds track.

It was business as usual for Chris as he took TQ in the first three rounds of round by round qualifying to secure pole position for the A final with two qualifying rounds still remaining! Run-time was an issue for many, with a lot of drivers (including current world champ Andy Moore) struggling to do a five-minute run despite showing the pace required to equal or even beat Chris Grainger's times. After taking pole, Chris went on to take three comfortable A final leg wins with his GM-powered Yokomo BD being the class of the field. Ben Cosgrove and Elliot Harper finished second and third for Xray.

Glen Westwood didn't have things quite so easy in the Pro-Stock class. He had to settle for second on the grid after a solid performance from Schumacher's Rob West. Despite this, it was Glen who took the first leg win after a committed move at the end of the straight. Glen didn't fare quite so well in leg two as he fell down the order allowing Rob to take a comfortable win. In leg three, Glen passed Rob early in the race and cruised to the leg and overall win and in doing so answered any questions about whether his Aldershot win was purely down to having the home advantage.

Round three of the championship takes place at West London in July and could see both championships wrapped up before the final round.
A full report from the Cotswolds meeting will be featured in Racer soon.
