The name Andy Mathews is synonymous with top end car modelling. One of his recent models is a total rework of a classic Tamiya 1:12 Formula One kit, the Williams Renault FW14B, and he has taken the kit to task, reworking and re-engineering most of the components to achieve the simply extraordinary results that have made him the leading artist in this field.
Andy has now published a book about the FW14B, covering not only the model but the real car in great depth. In fact, the bulk of the pages are devoted to the real thing with just eighteen pages given to the model at the back in a gallery section, however the photographs of the model are so clear and professionally executed that they do full justice to this amazing model.
The majority of the book provides an enthralling mixture of images, including trackside shots, portraits of the drivers and team and some very atmospheric views of the car competing, but the real goldmine are the pages and pages of technical shots of the FW14B, revealing parts of the car never seen before outside of the Williams establishment, and for these the book is an incredibly significant release. Whether you are building Tamiya’s still excellent 1:12 kit and need the ultimate printed reference source, like to see some well kept F1 secrets unveiled or are just a fan of Andy’s work, this title is quite amazing.

If you have not seen one his works of automotive art before, then this book provides a rich introduction to Andy Mathew’s world, and more specifically a fabulous tribute to one of the greatest Formula One cars of all time. Utterly fantastic.
