The 2009 Nitrocross World Finals was once again held at The Nitro Pit in Wittman, Arizona. The first year for this race was in 2007 where Ryan Cavalieri won the Invitational Truggy Class and Jared Tebo won the Invitational Buggy Class. Now two years later, both titles and cash were again up for grabs.

The Nitrocross race format used was very similar to that of Supercross where each driver would race it out to get into the Main Event. On Thursday, each driver was given two 10bminute practice runs for each class. The last five minutes of the last practice session was timed and would seed the drivers into their heats. There would be two heats of 15 drivers for the Invitational Classes. The first heat race consisted of 20 laps and the top four drivers in each heat would transfer directly to the A-Main. The Semi’s would be ran later in the day for those drivers that didn’t transfer and would also be a 20 lap race. The top three drivers in each heat would then transfer to the A-Main. At the end of the day was the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) where both heats of the remaining drivers would be put together for a 15 lap race. The A-Mains would be 30 laps and held on Sunday.

The Invitational Truggy Main Event ran first. At the start of the tone, Cavalieri got a great start and was up to third by the end of the first lap. Cavalieri then began to put in fast lap after lap to catch up to the leaders. At the halfway point in the race, RC was now leading and beginning to put some distance on the rest of the field. Cavalieri crossed the finish line first to take home his first win of the weekend and $5,000.00!

The last race of the day was the Invitational Buggy Main Event. Jared Tebo qualified first overall with his Team Orion powered Kyosho MP9. After the first lap was complete, it was once again Cavalieri getting a great start and in second place just behind the leader. Cavalieri then took over the lead a few laps later and drove away from the field. With a few laps to go in the race, RC then put it on cruise control to take the win and another $5,000.00!
