At the first major UK outdoor event for his new sponsors, Lee Martin took both wins for Tamiya at round one of the 2010 BRCA 1:10 Off-Road National series in Talywain, Wales. Two-thousand-and-ten saw the third visit to Talywain in Wales as the series kicked off in style, with blue sky and warm temperatures. In 2WD, Ellis Stafford and his X Factory car took the pole with Lee Martin and his new Tamiya second and Danny McGee’s Atomic Carbon CR2 third.

After sharing a win apiece in the first two legs of the A final, it would all be down to the third and final leg to decide the results. Both drivers pulled away from the chasing pack, yet it would come down to mistakes across the tricky back double that would see the lead change. Despite a bobble on the final lap for Lee, the last minute error would not be enough to allow Ellis an opportunity to pass and Lee would hold on to take his first 2WD National win and Tamiya, its first National win since Jamie Booth last century. Behind the Tamiya TRF201X, Ellis would take second overall with Grant Williams driving the new Schumacher Cougar SV grabbing third overall.

The following day saw the 4WD cars hit the track, circulating in the opposite direction with the back double being a key element. Once again, Lee and Ellis would be the two to beat and they both looked strong in their respective heats as they took round wins during qualifying. This time though, it was the Tamiya TRF511 of Lee that would sit on pole with Ellis’ prototype X Factory chassis second. After the intense and close battle of the previous day, Lee would race away with wins in legs one and two to make it a very successful weekend for Tamiya and Speed Passion. Ellis would hold on to third overall after problems in leg one as Yokomo’s Tom Yardy took second overall. Next stop on the calendar is Nottinghamshire in May and a visit to the Robin Hood Raceway.
