Round1 Of Spanish Championship Goes To Batlle

Fran4-22-10

The weekend of April 17th saw the first round of the competitive Spanish Championship which was held at Lebrija track with much doubt about weather conditions.

The track was in wet but luckily, all qualification rounds were completed on Saturday with Robert Batlle (AE/Novarrosi/PL) being TQ, in front of local driver, Miguel Martin (Losi/Novarossi/Procircuit). Before starting final rounds on Sunday, the rain appears causing a delay of 3 hours on the race timetable. After the 45-minute main final, Robert Batlle was able to win with a gap of 20 seconds over Alberto Garcia (Mugen/Reds/Pro-Line), finishing in third place local driver Juanma Vera (Losi/Novarrosi/GQ)

Robert used the Pro-Line Hole-Shot in M3 compound for the final, whilst Alberto used Caliber in M2. Ramón Nuño, a driver supported by the world class Madrid Modelissmo distributor in Spain, finished 6th overall and was also running Pro-Line tyres, making it three cars in the final and also achieving first and second place.

Some highlights of the race:

  • With the new signing of Robert Batlle to Pro-Line and the long-time Pro-Line driver, Alberto Garcia, Pro-Line gets a great 1-2 in the first Spanish Championship
  • Borja Hernandez surprisingly left Sweep to join AKA, two days before this race.
  • Richi Gomez decided not to take part in the race probably because of the rain.
  • Excellent result to REDS engines finishing in 2nd place with Alberto García and Carmelo Baldó in 10th position.

Bad luck to:

  • Daniel Vega in his debut with the new Agama, qualified in 37th final position.
