Cockerill and Martin Share Wins At BRCA Off-Road National

Report: Racer Staff

MO3O2205

At the second round of this year’s BRCA 1:10 Off-Road National series, Tom Cockerill was in charge of the 2WD class with his new Schumacher Cougar SV at a venue where he had showed utter dominance the year before. Lee Martin was pipped for the 4WD championship at RHR in 4WD, but this year saw him race from second on the grid to the overall class win with his Tamiya.

The 2WD class saw last year’s winner Tom Cockerill drive his Speed Passion-equipped Schumacher Cougar SV to the pole ahead of round one winner Lee Martin and his Tamiya. In the A finals, Tom was in fine form and took deserved wins in the first two legs to take the overall victory. Although coming under pressure in both, Tom never put a wheel wrong on the tricky racetrack layout set out by the RHR crew. With Tom taking the major spoils, the rest of the finalists would be battling for the runner-up spots and it was Lee Martin who would end up second with Danny McGee third for Losi/Atomic Carbon, as the top half dozen finished in the same positions that they qualified!

In 4WD, Lee Martin (Tamiya/Speed Passion) and Paul Bradby (Associated/Nosram) were the class of the field with these two having superior pace over the chasing pack. Lee and Paul both shared round wins, but it was the latter and runner-up from this event last year that would take pole position for the A finals. Paul was forced out of leg one when he popped a driveshaft allowing Lee to cruise to the win. The second leg saw Paul race to a very convincing victory ensuring it would go down to the third and final race of the day. Despite putting Lee under immense pressure, Paul was unable to pass his friend in leg three and this meant that Lee would win the meeting, making it two wins from two in this year’s 4WD championship. Paul would end up second overall with the previous day’s winner Tom Cockerill taking third for Schumacher.
