The 2nd round of the Irish Nationals was another big success for Team Shepherd. Ian Campbell and Chris Steele both won their finals and increased their lead in the ranking list. In the 1:8 scale class Ian Campbell had a good start into qualifying taking the provisional TQ in the first round. Clive Connolly improved his time in the second round and took over the pole-position. Unfortunately Campbell had some traffic in the last round and didn’t improve. So he started from 2nd on the grid for the main final.

At the beginning of the final everyone had a clean start, and in the opening laps Campbell and Connoly were able to pull away from the rest of the field. The Velox of Campbell was handling excellently and before the first pit-stops, he was able to take the lead when Connolly slowed down following a small mistake. Just over half-way through the race, Campbell made a tyre-stop and rejoined in 2nd position. Connolly chose to go the full race on one set of tyres, and so when he made a mistake in the closing laps, Campbell was able to pass for the lead once-again and crossed the finishing line in first position.

After the race Campbell had the following to say: “The race was really close all the way through, and I was delighted to win, taking maximum points for the championship. A big thanks once again to my dad and Chris Lawlor for their excellent pit-work. “
