The 2011 New South Wales State titles for 1:8 buggy took place this past weekend at Maitland Off-Road Radio Car Club and it was Kyle McBride who took the win for Team Durango. Kyle’s Durango DNX408 hit the track for the first practice run on Thursday running a slightly different set-up from the Neo11 race he’d attended a few weeks prior. After some changes to adjust to the conditions, Kyle finished second in the first qualifier then went quicker each run on his way to the semi finals. In his semi, Kyle lapped the field up to second place and put in the only 39-lap run out of the two 20-minute semis to take pole for the A final.
Kyle had a fantastic start to lead for the first few laps until an error into some hay bales drooped him to sixth place. Within two laps though we was back into third chasing down the leaders. Kyle moved up to second place around the 15-20 minute mark and kept his cool, slowly catching the leader and at 30 minutes he was six seconds down. Kyle’s tyres were shot though and he was wrestling the car round the track, but with his consistent lapping he managed to take the lead with seven minutes remaining before pulling a 20 second lead over his closest rival.
