UK Short Course Nationals Round Two – EPR

racer

Eden Park Raceway in Bromley, Kent played host to the second round of the 2011 Short Course Nationals on Sunday 15 May. Racers came from all over the country including several members of the Racer team as they entered into the 2WD and 4WD SC classes. Arriving at the track bright and early, the entrants got onto the track for practice around 8:30am. Some of the drivers struggled to cope with the multi-surface track with a lot of tool time hampering practice for some whilst others more clued up used the practice time wisely. This included the tricky first turn which caught many out as they had not walked the track beforehand. If they had, they may have realised that there is a small kink before the entrance to the tabletop resulting in many trucks doing a Kamikaze run behind the table top  – standing on the rostrum, the clever track design made it appear almost straight
After drivers briefing the first round of trucks took to the track for the first heats. There was three heats of 2WD SC and a heat of 4WD SC, as well as a heat of open class of buggies to keep the locals amused. A small break between the heats gave the drivers chance to recharge their batteries and some banter in the pits. After the heats, a well stocked raffle was drawn with proceeds going to the NGVFA charity. CML, HPI, X Factory and Selections RC had all donated prizes as one lucky youngster walked away with two sets of 2.4GHz radio equipment.

2WD C Final

Joe Brown was on pole for this final after moving away from on-road racing. This then saw him battling for the lead with Stefan Godfree and Chris Dickinson. Although getting through the backmarkers saw some questionable moves by the leader.

1 Joe Brown
2 Chris Dickinson

3 Stefan Godfree

2WD B Final

Ollie Crew arrived with a stock XXX-SCT and after practice ripped apart his TLR 22 to fit his truck out with a 6.5T motor! This saw him battling with Steve Davis and Simon Shearing throughout the finals.

1 Oliver Crew
2 Steve Davis
3 Simon Shearing

2WD A Final

The cream of the crop fought it out on track joined by Darren Boyle racing Ellis Stafford’s X Factory SCX-60. Obviously at all times Darren gave the truck the respect it deserved however, he couldn’t turn his immense speed into a win, but who knows what the next round will bring!
Richard Lowe with his Associated SC10 was the man to beat with Tony Truman snapping at his heels constantly and Chris Brooke following suite despite losing a CVD pin in the second final.
