Round four of the BRCA 1:10 Off-Road Nationals saw a return to Kidderminster for the first time in three years. The multi-surface track saw a technical layout for the 2WD event on Saturday where again weather would play a significant part in the proceedings.
Twice in the four rounds of qualifying it rained after ten of the 12 heats, effectively writing off these two rounds for the quick drivers in heats 11 and 12. Most of the top drivers though managed to hold their nerve and put it together in the other two dry rounds to make the A final, but it was touch and go for a few of them… Pole position went to former World Champion Neil Cragg with his Centro C4.1 car. Neil has always gone well at Kidderminster and it was great to see him back at his best. Lining up behind and looking the most likely challengers were Centro team mate Paul Bradby and TLR’s Darren Bloomfield.
The A finals were nail-biting stuff with three drivers from the front of the grid all finishing with the same scores after the three legs of racing. Amazingly they all had a first, second and third place each, so it came down to the fastest race. This meant that pole man Neil took the win from Associated/Centro team mate Paul Bradby, with TLR star Darren Bloomfield finishing off the podium positions.
