The first round of the 2012 BRCA 1:10 Nitro National Championship was held at the Mendip circuit near Weston-Super-Mare. Despite the cold weather, around 50 drivers made the trip all hoping for a good start to the season. Saturday’s practice for the opening round of the championship was fortunately dry and there were even a few glimpses of sunlight during the afternoon. The grip gradually increased throughout the day as the lap times got quicker and quicker.
Qualifying was dominated by Mark Green using a prototype Serpent 747 with defending champion Joe Kerry second fastest using the Serpent 733-TE. Both drivers were the only ones who managed to get below the 17-second lap time. In the final it was the same story as Mark took the win just ahead of Joe to give Serpent a one-two finish. It was a very strong performance by Serpent as both Mark and Joe finished four laps clear of third placed Simon Wood.
